For M. A chair-dancing mix

Cuddly Toy Roachford
Andrew Roachford's sole big hit, but I DEFY YOU not to chair-dance to it. The 80s wasn't so bad, was it?

Now It's On Grandaddy
It starts all mysterious and then explodes into fabulousness

Yes McAlmont & Butler
The SINGLE GREATEST "up yours" song since I Will Survive and much fun to belt out at the top of your voice

Whatever It Takes Sinead Lohan
I drove all over California to this song, singing it at the top of my voice. It is glorious

Timeless Melody The La's
More a swaying, humming song, really

Us Amazonians Kirsty MacColl
From her final, Latin American -inflected album, and full of joy

The Sun and the Rain Madness
Madness are completely underrated as songwriters. This is melancholy late Madness

Crash The Primitives
A one-hit wonder with a brilliant na-na-na chorusy bit

I Said Never Again (But Here We Are) Rachel Stevens
Very cheap, very potent, irresistible pop music

Oh my god, Roachford! I thought I was the only one who remembered that song. I had it on cassingle - hee!

Also love The Primitives and Rachel Stevens. Well done!

It's fantastic. I used to have it on cassette too, then bought it from iTunes this week because it was on some show I watched. "Being Human", I think. I do not feel guilty about sharing, because it is aces.

I'm taking these for my own personal enjoyment too, I hope that's okay!

And... it's not our M's birthday... she's back in December. Do you have a new M in your life? Hmmm? Spill!

Me, I look forward to chair-dancing in my immediate future. You are so good with the music sharing. LOVE IT. Thank you!

I have no idea why Madness are so neglected nowadays. Theories:

Sax-and-piano-driven sound does not fit into today's guitar-versus-sequencer dichotomy.

Slapstick videos still create a hangover of naffness.

Suggs's naff TV half-life.

Cultural-appropriation paranoia over an all-white band having such a strong debt to Jamaican music and melding it with gorblimey pre-rock music hall stuff that people associate with Alf Garnett BNP-ist nostalgia.

Intelligent, articulate and thoughtful working-class people are too uncomfortable now that Genuine Working-Class music must be either neanderthal Gallagher-style scumboys with guitars or vapid FHM-posing manufactured girls.

Thanks as ever -- I've discovered so much good music and good musicians through your kindness!
