My mood should be RIGHTEOUS because Elbow just won the Mercury music prize for The Seldom Seen Kid. How many times have I said that this was an amazing, heart-warming and beautiful album? I am now listening to them on Radio 2 singing One Day Like This slightly drunkenly in the style of Chas and Dave. Radcliffe and Maconie are just as overjoyed for them. I LOVE THIS BAND. They are fantastic live, they make you laugh and they can make you cry just as easily. And I know this means I am going to have to share them now, but I'll live.

Just in case you have not been assimilated yet, here are four magnificent tracks from the album:
Grounds for Divorce, used in the trailer for the current Coen Brothers film
Some Riot
Mirrorball. This is beautiful.
And finally, a slice of joy in recorded form, and the song of the summer for all sports broadcasters: One Day Like This
Buy this album. It will make your life better.

See, I was just thinking "Yay! new people will get to hear adored band" but you are right. Maybe even the Coen Brothers isn't enough to make it okay.

It's like House uses Teardrop by Massive Attack -- I didn't know until I ahemed a US version of the show once because they changed the theme in the UK -- and I was incandescent that they had used the beloved song of my twenties, which has Liz Fraser and should never be taken in vain, for emo medical wankings.

non tl;dr -- I *know*.

Totally non-tealdeer!

Do you have the live recording of "The Bones of You" from a BBC radio session or something? (Does the BBC do radio, or is it called something else for that?) I like it even better than the album version, even though it's scratchier.

I don't and I can't find it on the usual ahemmery. But yes indeed, the BBC does radio (arguably more than it does telly). I think what you're after is the Maida Vale session from Radio 1. Most of the good sessions seem to be Six Music, Live Lounge or Maida Vale, if you're spelunking.

I don't know if you can see this but if you can, you will understand why I have a MASSIVE CRUSH on this man.

No, no, I have it! I meant, do you want a copy? :)

I will check out the page when I have a spare moment.

Oooh. Yes. Also please. Would you like some rarities. I have Teardrop, a cover of Amerie's One Thing and the infamous Independent Woman cover, or some stuff off the EPs
