My mood should be RIGHTEOUS because Elbow just won the Mercury music prize for The Seldom Seen Kid. How many times have I said that this was an amazing, heart-warming and beautiful album? I am now listening to them on Radio 2 singing One Day Like This slightly drunkenly in the style of Chas and Dave. Radcliffe and Maconie are just as overjoyed for them. I LOVE THIS BAND. They are fantastic live, they make you laugh and they can make you cry just as easily. And I know this means I am going to have to share them now, but I'll live.

Just in case you have not been assimilated yet, here are four magnificent tracks from the album:
Grounds for Divorce, used in the trailer for the current Coen Brothers film
Some Riot
Mirrorball. This is beautiful.
And finally, a slice of joy in recorded form, and the song of the summer for all sports broadcasters: One Day Like This
Buy this album. It will make your life better.

You might. Are they successful in the US?

Not successful here, no. So it's more like I'll never see them in a small venue where they actually play shows, which would NOT be here. Sigh. Although, I still see Tom McRae here with 40 people, so maybe Elbow will play similarly tiny places when they get over here. Which they better do, the big losers (who are winners).

Next time you're going to see them, let me know. You know I am always looking for an excuse to visit you & the city!
