My mood should be RIGHTEOUS because Elbow just won the Mercury music prize for The Seldom Seen Kid. How many times have I said that this was an amazing, heart-warming and beautiful album? I am now listening to them on Radio 2 singing One Day Like This slightly drunkenly in the style of Chas and Dave. Radcliffe and Maconie are just as overjoyed for them. I LOVE THIS BAND. They are fantastic live, they make you laugh and they can make you cry just as easily. And I know this means I am going to have to share them now, but I'll live.

Just in case you have not been assimilated yet, here are four magnificent tracks from the album:
Grounds for Divorce, used in the trailer for the current Coen Brothers film
Some Riot
Mirrorball. This is beautiful.
And finally, a slice of joy in recorded form, and the song of the summer for all sports broadcasters: One Day Like This
Buy this album. It will make your life better.

A pleasure. I love them so. Even though they never bloody play my favourite song live.

Sorry if you've told me before, but what's your favorite?

"My Very Best". I'm not surprised they never play it though, the lyrics are about a break-up and pretty raw

Even *I* can barely listen to that song, and I didn't write it or know the people involved (if it's even about a real situation). Now if only I could find my Leaders CD I'd listen to it again for the first time in ages. (I really need to organize my huge-piles-o-cds.)

It's gorgeous though, and so angry and sad.

And yes, you do need to sort out your CDs. Not that I can talk. Most of mine are stored at my parents, pending the bloody house renovation that feels as if it might never get done
